Our President

By Gary L. Walls
Executive Director
Kentucky Perinatal Association

Amy Snell, BSRN became the new President of the Kentucky Perinatal Association at the 22nd Annual KPA Educational Conference at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park. She will serve a two year term following Dr. Henrietta Bada, chief of neonatology at University of Kentucky.

Amy has been a valued long time and respected member of the board of directors and “honored to get to serve as the KPA President and is really excited about the leadership of the Board of Directors”. She went on to say, “I welcome an increased involvement and input from our membership. There is a wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership among our general membership. Of course, I would like to see our membership grow and become even more representative of the state”. Additionally, Amy would like for KPA to present more regional meetings, so we can find out what the major concerns are in different areas of the state. Our major goal is to determine what KPA can do to promote the health of Kentucky’s mothers and babies.

Born in Garland Texas, Amy’s family moved to Kentucky at a young age. After graduating from high school in Louisville, she graduated from University of Kentucky and earned her BSRN designation.

After practicing bedside at the UKMC NICU for seven years, Amy became the Neonatal Outreach coordinator for the division of Neonatology at University of Kentucky. In this capacity Amy interacts with referring providers and loves going out to see what’s happening in other parts of the state. “I love the people the most and always have a good time when we go out to present workshops. It is so great to see the enthusiasm our referring providers have to improve not only the care they provide, but likewise their desire to make a difference in the health of our mothers and babies”.

In 2008, Amy was appointed the additional responsibility to serve as the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Coordinator for the Division of Neonatology.

Amy and her husband Will, a professor at UK, have two daughters: Lucy Ann - a student at University of Kentucky and Caroline - a student at Bourbon County High School. Amy values her time as putting her family first and watching the girls play volleyball, soccer, tennis and dance. Amy is an avid UK fan and enjoys reading and performing community volunteer activities.
